Band review: Desperate Union

This past week I attended a "Soulfly" concert at the House of Blues in Dallas. I was expecting them to have heavier supporting acts that were pure metal or screamo to fit the mood of the main act, which they did with the presence of "Incite" and "Straight Line Stitch". What I did not expect, however, was the opening act "Desperate Union", the one band who didn't seem spend half of their time screaming. Sadly the venue was nearly empty when they took the stage, but for those of us early enough to hear them we were truly lucky. If “Weezer” and “Simple Plan” had a child, who then had a child with “Incubus”, you might be on your way to “Desperate Union” (or insane confusion). For a band on their first tour outside Canada they handled themselves very professionally and rocked the stage extremely well, especially considering that they were one show away from finishing two months on the road. It’s also worth mentioning that the band members only graduated from high school a few months ago, so they are getting an extremely early start on touring with bigger name bands. The fact that they weren’t “just another metal band” gave them the upper hand as a truly unique act at the concert.

On a side note, no offense is meant to any of the other performers who all put on one heck of a show. I have nothing but love for you guys and can't wait til you come back through Texas :) Be sure to check out the links below to pick up copies of albums by all of the performers from the "Soulfly" show:
