Music You May Have Missed: Volume 1

Awake at Dawn, "A Seeing Through" (2009):

At first listen, Texas' AAD may seem a little odd, but if you pay attention to the instrumental details, the band has potential. They have a quality to their sound that feels like it should be played on vinyl in between "Alice in Chains" and "Guns N' Roses". Give them a try, they may be one to watch over the next few years.

Evans Blue, "Evans Blue" (2010):

Unless you were a fan of this Canadian band's original line-up, chances are you may not have heard of them. For those of you who have, you know that the band replaced their lead singer in 2009, something that made some of their more die-hard fans a bit nervous. There is no reason to fear this change, EB is back with a vengeance and a new album filled with great rock anthems reminiscent of "Finger Eleven's" first albums.

RED, "Innocence and Instinct" (2009):

Yes, this Tennessee band is Christian, but they are also one of the best rock acts out right now. You're hard-pressed to find a band who even on smaller venues can tear down the house with their performances. Red has played with Breaking benjamin and the two bands collaborated on writing songs for both "Innocence and Instinct", and BB's album "Dear Agony".  Be sure to also check out their first album "End of Silence".

Ribkat and Josy B., "Theory of Addicts" (2009):

Lets add some hip-hop for a change... Fans of "Styles of Beyond" and "Fort Minor" will recognize Ribkat aka. Takbir in his new project, which is a fresh new sound for him. It's clean, has great beats and rhymes, and is a truly fun and enjoyable album. Josy B has a beautiful tone to her voice that makes for a sexy addition to the songs that unlike many of the modern "hip-hop girls" still brings with it a reason to respect her. This album is perfect for listening to just about anywhere and with anyone. All of this is made even better by the fact that you can download it for free from the official website. I will encourage you though to try to buy a copy if you possibly can.

Shaman's Harvest, "Shine" (2009):

Based out of Missouri, Shaman's Harvest has actually now released four full albums. Their current single "Dragonfly" reached #40 on Octane and was the theme for the Mel Damski film "Legendary". WWE wrestler Drew McIntyre is currently using their song "Broken Dreams" as his personal theme.

Skillet, "Collide" (2003)

Another Christian band from Tennessee, there are some people who would dismiss Skillet as being just another worship group. Those people would be morons. Skillet is a powerful clean rock group that can reach those who need their message and still knock you to the ground when they want to. Recently their single "Awake" has been getting mainstream radio play, but they've actually been doing great music for over 10 years now. Don't miss out on this fantastic band.

Stone Cold Sober, "Small Town" (2009):

These Oklahoma boys are far from small when it comes to their ability to rock. They've played with several of the biggest acts in modern rock, including Bret Michaels, Sick Puppies, Rev Theory, and Vince Neal of Motley Crue. Give SCS a listen, you won't regret it.

SubmerseD, "Immortal Verses" (2009):

Before disbanding in 2008, this Texas based group was actually receiving pretty good airplay on rock stations around the country and had hit singles that made their way onto several of the Marvel Comics movie soundtracks. Two of the former members have teamed up with former members of "Dark New Day" to create the band "Eye Empire". You might recognize their guitarist, Eric Friedman, as an addition to the recently resurrected band "Creed".

The Veer Union, "Against The Grain" (2009):

Canada's "Veer Union" hit the touring circuit in 2009 with a strong energy, both live and recorded, that sounds a bit like a younger "Sevendust", with undertones of "Seether" and "Seventh Day Slumber". Their first single, "Seasons", reached number 10 on Billboard's "Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks", and was also the official sog of "WWE: Backlash" in 2009.
