Tip Eleven: Experiment

From time to time you may discover that a song you wrote is good but doesn't really fit the style of your band, or they just simply aren't interested in recording it. This does not mean you have to give up that song. Many artists take those songs and put them onto a solo album or side project. For example, Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda, Thousand Foot Krutch's Trevor Mcnevan, and Godsmack's Sully Erna have all released solo/ alternate band projects without causing any problems for their original bands. So long as you don't flat-out abandon your original band just because they won't play a song or two, doing the music on your own can be a refreshing creative experience. You may even bring something new to the table when you go back to your first band that works perfectly.
