Labels - Major V. Minor "soap box"/ discussion

My goal here is to start a decent conversation on the way that labels treat their respective "families", not necessarily focused on the issues from a professional standpoint.

The primary difference between a major and an indie label I see is this: Most majors have enough money to promote any band, but will be a bit more likely to dump the act if they aren't an instant success. Independent labels however have far less money and usually still bother to push their acts out to the public because they have a more family oriented relationship with the act, and tend to go out on limbs that major labels wouldn't dare because of this relationship. I don't say this as a criticism for major labels since the fact is, they're in it for the money when you get down to it, you can't totally blame them with how the industry has been over the last few years, but it does say a lot about the label seeing how much faith they put into an act, not because they're the world's greatest band, but because there is that special something waiting to be brought out. I will say however this is not true of all indie labels though, in some instances it becomes clear the label only signed an act because it looks impressive to have a large number of bands on its roster.
